A Promise to Repay a Loan with Your Signature
Among the many different types of loans GPCE Credit Union offers, our members can apply for a signature loan.
It's a type of personal loan also referred to as a good faith loan or a character loan that can be approved with a signature and doesn't require collateral to be tied to the loan, such as a vehicle or other item of value.
How much can you borrow?
The amount you can borrow with a signature loan will depend on several things such as your credit history and income. Approval for a signature loan is also based on your credit score or worthiness.
The credit union will decide the amount they are going lend to you. Borrowed amounts can vary but tend to be on the lower end because collateral is not attached to the loan. Keep in mind that the interest rate will probably be higher than other loan types which do require some form of collateral.
What can the loan be used for?
Many people apply for a signature loan simply for the extra cash or as a method of consolidating other smaller loans or credit cards with different or higher interest rates. You can use a signature loan for just about anything. Usually, signature loan proceeds are expensed for smaller home improvement jobs, emergencies, vacation spending money or even some major purchases such as computers, appliances or auto repairs.
What if you have bad credit?
You can still be approved for a signature loan even if your credit is not perfect. Just keep in mind that your credit score will determine your interest rate. Maybe you’re trying to reestablish your credit or improve your credit history. A signature loan may be ideal for that too. However, the loan approval process remains the same and you may be required to have a co-signer on the signature loan.
